New York Post / Aug. 14, 2021 (Brian Lewis) – Reggie Perry is still a Net — for now

BSE and Roc Nation (founded by Jay-Z) have a partnership with Fanatics, which has joined with Kambi and Penn National Gaming/Barstool Sportsbook, according to playin-ny.

Yardbarker / Aug. 23, 2021 (Orlando Silva) – James Harden’s Trainer Says He’s Been Robbed Of 3 MVPs

“I think he’s been robbed in about three of them,” Allen told playin-ny (via NY Daily News). ”I think he should be a three- or four-time MVP for sure.”

New York Daily News / April 12, 2021 (Denis Slattery, Larry McShane) – Legalized betting apps coming to NY, but experts wonder if this is the right approach (Legal Sports Report)

“They’ve got two feet in, but they’re wearing two different shoes,” said Adam Candlee, managing editor of the Legal Sports Report. “I did call it a mess, because of the language in the bill. From the beginning of the process, Gov. Cuomo wanted a model run by the state and to limit the number of operators.”

WKBW-TV / April 7, 2021 (Jeff Slawson) – State News Mobile sports betting “will pass” in New York according to Governor

According to a report from Legal Sports Report, platform providers (DraftKings, FanDuel, etc) would have to split at least 50% of the profits with the state and only between two and four will be allowed to operate. The State’s Casinos will host the servers, with four casinos already having deals with sports books that operate mobile gaming sites.

Newsday / April 7, 2021 (Yancey Roy) – NY OKs mobile sports betting, but it will take time to start

“We believe the governor’s revenue projections are overly optimistic,” said Dustin Gouker, lead analyst for the PlayUSA.com network. He said a more realistic projection for New York is $200 million to $400 million annually. Among other things, the company believes the New York tax rate is too high.

“This compromise will achieve the main goal of lawmakers, which is to provide a new and dependable revenue stream for the state,” Goucker said. “But it will likely fall short on other priorities, including shutting down the black market. The final regulatory structure is better than before, but it is ultimately shortsighted.”

MarketWatch / April 6, 2021 (Weston Blasi) – New York officially approves legal online sports betting

Cuomo has said he wants to run the state’s sports betting industry through the New York Lottery, which is run by the government. Under his plan, the New York state Lottery would issue requests for proposals from only a few mobile betting operators, which it could then license out to other sportsbook operators, according to playin-ny.

Investor’s Business Daily / April 1, 2021 (Adelia Cellini Linecker) – DraftKings Buys Broadcaster While N.Y. Betting Hopes Fade

The stakes are high. According to research by industry tracker playin-ny, an open market could draw $37 billion in bets, $2.5 billion in operator revenue and more than $300 million in tax revenue over the first four years after launch. A closed market could draw $7.5 billion in bets, $750 million in revenue but $375 million in revenue for the state.

“The bottom line is we believe an open market will offer broader benefits for the state and its residents,” said playin-ny analyst Dustin Gouker in a statement. “But a closed market should produce more revenue for the state, and that is tempting for policymakers.”
